Irene Manton building (2019) drawing, 50Wx40H

I’m an illustrator and printmaker based in Leeds. In the past few years my style has evolved into drawing highly detailed, black and white images of architecture and streetscenes. Sometimes these are left as stand alone drawings, other times digitally combined with colour, and other times converted into printmaking. When I’ve focused more on printmaking, especially screenprint, the style has involved combining the detailed drawings as layers of colour on top of each other, building up depth and texture.

My work focuses on parts of Leeds I pass by on a regular basis that I then grow an appreciation for. Common themes tend to be architecture, faded grandeur, historical interest, brutalism, lively shop fronts and the people who inhabit these places. I like the idea of the prints becoming dated and a sort of archive, especially for the shop front series, which in some cases have already changed significantly.

I exhibit regularly as well as selling my work at art and print fairs, and also online. My work has been displayed both locally and nationally with some of my screenprints having been shortlisted for art prizes.
