Sarah Hulme

Anxiety in Isolation, Rainbow of Hope (2021) Textile Art

Sarah Hulme is an emerging textile artist and designer maker, working in print and stitch. Her personal practice is inspired by her local industrial heritage, history and personal narratives.

Sarah Hulme is passionate about historical textiles and objects from working people in the local area. She is fascinated by urban decay, dilapidation, distress, painterly marks, texture and wear and tear. She uses subtle tones and surface design to tell stories through print and stitch.

Sarah works with natural fibres and repurposes historical textiles in her work. Sarah studied an HNC in Contemporary Constructed Textiles at Bradford School of Art.

“The postcard is a representation of a woman who is anxious in Lockdown, missing her community, friends and loved ones. A rainbow arches above her, offering hope of happier times out of Lockdown. “
