Fernandez studied in Caracas Fine Art in the Armando Reveron University Institute (UNEARTE), and Social Sciences, Media and Drama in Universidad Catolica Andres Bello.

The militarization of almost every single aspect of Renata’s country made her to take on camouflage as a subject-matter while indulging in the inherent painterly qualities, coinciding with the Iraq invasion back in 2003. All her most recent work in painting, drawing, sculpture and installation derives from those reflections on camouflage. There is also a profound need to explore the genre of landscape: one set in an urban environment, with a static narrative, devoid of people yet with outdoor furniture standing symbolically by humans. This depiction of nature is one that is as attractive as uneasy, mesmerising as it is broody, a ‘Menacing Beauty’ that lets us believe there is something intangible behind the foliage that could be distinctly unfriendly.

Renata is showing her work at Women’s Lockdown Art Exhibition, Zabludowicz Collection, London (November, now cancelled due to COVID second lockdown). Most recently Renata showed at THE IMPORTANCE OF PAPER, RELATIONSHIPS, ARTISTS’ PERSPECTIVE, both group shows with BOS Gallery, Dublin. Also AMALGAMA in its first edition in 2019, also in Maddox Arts in Mayfair as part of HER NATURE (2017) among other exhibitions there. Fernandez was selected for the Lynn Painter Stainers Prize 2016 and 2018, Mall Galleries. Her latest solo show was TROPICO CAMUFLADO in the Museo Alejandro Otero, Caracas (2013-14). Her work is in several private collections worldwide.
