Dan Burton
Hi, I’m Dan. I’m a published and award-nominated photographer based in Leeds, UK. I moved here from sunny Australia nearly 7 years ago. I love telling stories through photography. I also love coffee and gin. I predominately shoot 35mm film for personal projects, and digital (FujiFilm X-series) for commercial and freelance work.
When looking for creative inspiration, adventure or solace, I stuff my rucksack, lace up my boots, grab my camera and head outside. My interest in outdoor and documentary photography grew from my desire to capture the beautiful natural (and sometimes manmade) environments that I was experiencing for the first time when I moved to the UK. The landscape, the seasons and the historical backdrop of the UK is so incredibly different from Australia. I also fell in love with the unique people that make Leeds and the UK the place it is; I enjoy telling their stories.
I bought my first camera (a 3-megapixel Sony point-and-shoot) when I was 14 (which is half a lifetime ago now). Whilst I have never taken formal education in the field of photography, I very much consider myself a student of the form: throwing myself in deep, from the technical to the aesthetic. It is with a renewed vigour, commitment and interest that I am honing my craft. I am actively experimenting with new mediums and new techniques, exploring new creative concepts, revisiting and critiquing my earlier output, and studying wider collections of work.
