Growth
GROWTH BY CHLOE HENSON
How the nature we live in feels about us.
Growth will showcase textile works that are the culmination of a yearlong self-directed project. Taking inspiration from Flora, Henson uses wool felt and cotton calico to create the textile hangings. Each is meticulously hand-sewn before she observes how they sit within a space.
Henson has always found the movement of natural forms captivating; the energy they have, how they look to be feeling. This collection explores the time Henson spent in 2023 slowing down, looking, and connecting. The exploration and culmination of Growth was supported by Arts Council England’s Develop Your Creative Practice grant.
Henson is based between Nottingham & Leeds, UK. She graduated from Leeds Arts University. Her practice is focused on explaining emotionful stories without words. Drawing attention to the forms and characters that surround us every day, each with their own stories to share. Making works full of feeling, in the hope that they make new connections with her, the viewer and beyond.
Henson’s CV includes exhibiting at Tate Britain as part of the Tate Collective’s open call based on Home in January 2023.
Henson also secured a six-month creative residency with Leeds Arts University in 2022. Her work has also been in publications such as Field Trip via an open call to coincide with the exhibition Hinterlands at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.
