Art Tastes @ Oblong
A day of FREE art: with exhibitions, workshops and stalls.
Aire Place Studios’ kickstarts our new outreach programme on Saturday 9th October 2021 at 11am till 4pm in partnership with Oblong Community Centre.
Art Tastes are pop-up events showcasing the incredible talents of our creative members, unveiling our community projects to wider audiences. Working in partnership with community venues, we are bringing our work into the community for all to get a taste of the wonderful art we are doing down at the studios.
Our first Art Tastes event will take place at Oblong in Woodhouse and includes our interactive Leeds Inspired Postcard exhibition. This body of work is a catalogue of our community’s thoughts and fears, messages of hope, and general experiences at this significant point in our history. The postcards are a tangible connection, in a time where the world has become increasingly reliant on virtual interactions. Visitors can submit their own responses to our growing selections in this FREE WORKSHOP! Collage, colour, create, and contribute your experiences of lockdown.
Another way for visitors to get involved is through our National Lottery funded Colouring Book. This colouring book features artists from The LGBT+ community and those from Black and Minoritised ethnicities. During the pandemic the colouring books were a travelling exhibition, made to be distributed to community groups and workers. Pick up some colouring pencils, have a brew and join our team in real life. Don’t forget to grab some FREE copies to take home!
Zineophilia joins the Art Tastes gang and offers the public the chance to have your say in print! Work with Zineophilia to publish “What Woodhouse Wants!” Zine, which communicates what projects Woodhouse residents want to see in the area! Zineophilia is a Leeds based Zine social club that hosts events to teach zine making, self publishing, and self expression. Come and be part of our renaissance, shout about what you REALLY want to see happen in Woodhouse, and get published!
And a Musical student showcase from Sing with Lily! (Instagram: @singlilyrose) Mini Student Showcase at Art Tastes: A chance for students of Lily Moharrer (Vocal Coach) to show off their hard work and progress. Singing with Lily students are part of a wonderfully supportive community and with yearly showcases, get the opportunity to share their stories and perform their favourite songs.
Browse our Art Market with stalls from our lovely Studio Members. Featuring Prints and Cards for all occasions!
Lost opportunities, cancelled events, and lockdowns, The pandemic has affected us all, Aire Place Studios has survived this by making art and the community our priority. We are very excited to be participating in face to face events again. This is a celebration of collective resilience of art and creativity through covid.
Aire Place Studios is a not-for-profit creative studio, community interest company providing exhibition opportunities, low and cost workspaces. We are also a Community Hub focusing on giving a platform to those who wouldn’t traditionally have had such opportunities.
