Walking in a Winter (Crafternoon) Wonderland!
Last weekend, we here at the studios hosted our Winter Crafternoon fundraiser, and to say that we were pleased with how the day panned out would be an understatement!
In co-operation with our lovely neighbours at Seagulls Paints, who were running their Winter Market at the same time, we teamed up with The Hungry Luchadora (incidentally another quality local startup ran by Claire, a former volunteer here), who kept us fed with quality Mexican cuisine & with Cakey Pig who provided us with equally quality baked goods to get people out of the cold, involved in some workshops, and to say hello to the local community.
At the same time we engaged our typical British fundraiser minds and ran a raffle. Every £1 donated to the studio got people a ticket and a chance to pick up prizes from the likes of Forbidden Planet, The Plant Point, The Chilli Shop, Blue Collar Hairdressing & MOD Pizza, amongst others. All the money raised going towards the cost of running our community hub, which will provide creative spaces at a subsidised costs. Breaking barriers to creativity for people on low incomes.
So how much did we raise in the end? A solid £400! We can’t thank you all enough for your support on the day, both from those who have been here before and from our new friends who we look forward to seeing back in the new year when our 2019 events calendar begins.
We also got the chance to try out a couple of new pieces of equipment at the studio. Firstly, our new card machine is now up and running, accepting all major credit/debit cards, a contactless reader for eligible cards, Apple Pay & Google Pay, and with no additional fees for those paying by card. Best of all though, no minimum spend! The second piece of equipment we got to try out is our new coffee machine! Serving freshly ground, fair trade coffee, and if you want to go the extra mile for sustainability and bring your own mug, we’ll give you a 50p discount on the cost of your coffee.
Exciting times are ahead here if last weekend is any indication. It was a lot of hard work on the part of our team of volunteers so we’d like to thank everyone who came down again for making all the effort worth it. Have a lovely winter holiday and we’ll see you all in 2019!
